Today, we’re breaking down some of the most commonly reported Netgear issues, and providing simple fixes and workarounds to help you solve them.

1. No Internet Connection

The Issue: You’re installing a Netgear router, but you don’t have an Internet connection detected on your phone line. Another scenario is that you don’t currently have an Internet connection device that you can hook up to your router.

The Solution: Keep in mind that while Netgear products enhance your Internet connection, they do not supply the connection itself. To solve this issue, you’ll need to ensure contact with an Internet Service Provider (ISP).

2. No Internet Access

The Issue: You’ve verified that you have Internet access, but you’re still not connecting to the Internet with your Netgear router.

The Solution: If your ISP confirms your Internet connectivity, the issue is probably with your router connection. You’ll need to log on to your router. If you are able to log in, go ahead and run the Smart Wizard, part of Netgear support.

If the Wizard discovers a dynamic IP address, clicking on the “Test” button will take you to the Netgear test page. This page is online, so if you’re able to access it, you have Internet connectivity.

Check that your router has a valid IP address. You can verify this under the “Internet Port” section of the Test Page.

3. Lost Internet Connection

The Issue: You’re online and everything is going well, and suddenly, you lose your Internet connection. You might realize that you can’t access your websites, or your first signal might be that the Internet LED symbol on your Netgear router has turned to an amber color.

The Solution: This is one of the most common Netgear support issues, and is relatively simple to diagnose. Try the following steps. If one step works, you’re good to go! No need to complete them all.

1. Make sure your devices are connected, and everything is securely plugged in. Sometimes, a loose cord is the culprit.

2. Try power cycling your network to refresh your connection.

3. Download your router’s latest firmware, then follow your router’s instructions for updating the firmware manually.
