How to Use the Netgear Genie App

Netgear Routers have always been a favorite for technophiles, and with the new Netgear Genie app, you can take mobile network management to the next level. From the comfort and ease of your smartphone or mobile device, this app allows you to manage your home network settings and any associated media.

Not sure how to get started? Read on for a quick guide on how to use the Netgear Genie App.

What you Need to Know About the Netgear Genie App

Getting Started

The Netgear Genie app is currently available for Apple and Android devices, and it can be downloaded from iTunes and Google Play. Once you download and install the app, you’ll need to login to your home network.

To do this, just join your home network as you normally would on your device, and then launch the Netgear Genie app.

From here, you can login using the same password you use for your home network. For the username, simply use the app’s default “admin” username.

Netgear Genie App Features

The hardest part is over. Once you’ve launched the Netgear Genie app and you’re logged in, you can access the many features this app has to offer, including the following:

Wireless network settings

If you’ve ever needed to change the password on a Netgear router, now you can do it straight from your mobile device. Once inside the Netgear Genie app, just select the “wireless settings” section, where you’ll be able to directly change the SSID, wireless channel, and password.

Guest Access

If you have frequent guests or you occasionally rent a room in your home, it’s helpful to create guest access on your network rather than just giving out your password to everyone. With the Netgear Genie app, this can be accomplished in moments. Just select “guest access” on the main menu, and from there you can easily create a new network with your preferred security and time preference settings.

Network Map

If you’re interested in seeing a quick visual representation of what’s currently connected to your network, just select “network map” from the main menu, which shows all connected devices and their details.

Parental Controls

If you have children who connect to your network, the Netgear Genie app makes it easy to filter the content allowed on certain devices. Just select “parental controls” from the main screen, and choose your preferred filtering settings.

Traffic Monitoring

Curious about traffic on your network? The “traffic meter” section gives you quick-and-easy information about the bandwidth and traffic currently being used by your network.

Media Access

Possibly the coolest feature of the Netgear Genie app is the ability to access media from any connected device. Just select “my media” from the home menu and you can choose which media to stream from your device.

With its features and user-friendly interface, the Netgear Genie app is perfect for tech lovers or anyone looking to have more control over their home network. Have you tried the app yet? What are your thoughts? Comment below and share your experience!

What Is Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) And How To Use WPS Pin?

A relatively newer breakthrough in the technological world, Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) is a security standard which makes wireless home networks secure and also allows wireless client devices such as smart phones, iPads and tablets to use it without having to access the router configuration, password or security key. In order to connect the client devices with WPS, they must be connected to each other. This means that your router and client device must be compatible and connected to each other in this blog post, we will learn how to connect your router using the WPS Wizard and the WPS pin method .

Connecting to the router using the WPS wizard:

  1. Before you begin, ensure that your router is connected to your computer.
  2. Next, open any internet browser (Chrome, Firefox, Explorer etc.) and type or A login screen will appear.
  3. Here, you will be asked to enter the admin username and password. Nearly all NETGEAR routers come with default admin username and password credentials. They are:
  4. Username: admin
  5. Password: password
  6. Once you enter the username and password, you will be directed to the BASIC home screen.
  7. Click on ADVANCED and then, click on WPS Wizard.
  8. Once the page loads and you see the option of Next, click on it to move to the next step.
  9. Here, you will have the option to use any of the two methods (Push button or WPS PIN method).

To use WPS using the Push-button method

The push-button method is one of two methods to setup a WSP. Like the name suggests, it doesn’t always have to be a push-button on the back of the product; it can also be an option on the router user interface. It may be marked with a “WPS” symbol or a “lock with Wi-Fi signals” emerging from it. Check the user manual in case there is no EPS button on your router. If such is the case, you router may not be WPS capable.

To connect to the router using the push button method, simply click on the WPS button and follow all the instructions.

To use WPS using the WPS PIN or Security PIN method:

You may find the security PIN number on the product label, the back of your router or in the wizard itself. Once you have the PIN, you will be asked to enter it to access your router or to join a network when using a wireless device.

  1. Enter the PIN number and hit the Next tab.
  2. Now, using the WPS software, go to client device to connect to a Wi-Fi network. Once it connects, your wireless computer will automatically be connected with the network password through the WPS process.
  3. You will receive a confirmation message on the router’s WPS screen once it is set up.

This should set up all your devices with your router without having to enter the password every time.
